KENS 5: New 'Kids Kave' game room opened at St. Jude's Ranch for Children

SAN ANTONIO - A dream 15 years in the making for the St. Jude Children's Ranch in Bulverde came true Thursday. It's a brand new rec room thanks to Santikos Entertainment and the First Chance Foundation, but its much more than that.

"It is so fantastic to walk in the door and see how this place turned out, and how many great memories are going to come out of this as young people congregate here and have a safe wonderful environment to have fun year round," said David Holmes, CEO of Santikos Entertainment.

It's a game room most kids only dream of. And those kids at St. Jude's Ranch deserve to have those dreams come true.

"They were abused, abandoned, neglected. They've been removed from their homes. They live with us 24/7. We are picking them up from where they are at and healing them from their trauma," said Tara Rousseau of St. Jude's Ranch For Children.

The room is chock-full of fun, from car racing video games to a pool table, foosball, air hockey, board games, chess, and evening miniature bowling.

There's also a 10-seat theater where kids can sit back in a safe environment, watch a movie, and maybe eat some popcorn too.

"It's got surround sound. It's a great experience, although I do have to be honest, I spent a little bit of time on that Fast and Furious game over in the corner," said Clint Swindall of the First Chance Foundation.

He wasn't the only adult getting in some kid time Thursday.

"That's going to make working in the office a challenge when you have a fun game to race cars," Rousseau said.

The real challenge for these adults may be Dance Dance Revolution, but it's really for the kids. anyway.

"The kids have always wanted a place to be in and this Kids Kave is here," Rousseau exclaimed.

And because of the Kids Kave, the kids may end up staying up past their bedtime.
