SANTIKOS THEATRES-- A Texas Entertainment Legacy

Greek entrepreneur Louis Santikos could not have known that when he founded a movie theatre in San Antonio in 1911, he was launching an entertainment legacy in Texas. More than ninety years later, the Santikos name is synonymous with the movie industry. From humble beginnings, to the celebrated opening of its elegant Palladium IMAX Theatre built in honor of the family's Greek heritage, the Santikos family has earned a reputation as pioneers in the motion picture industry.

Following in his father's footsteps, John Santikos joined the family movie business after graduating from St. Mary’s University. Under his leadership the company expanded considerably, adding eight new theatres to the Santikos roster, including the firm's first theatre built outside of San Antonio, the Silverado IMAX in Houston. John Santikos remains at the helm of the business today, heading up the largest family-owned theatre circuit in Texas.

Over the years, Santikos Theatres has established a well-deserved reputation for bringing the “latest and greatest” in cinema technology to San Antonio. From the first drive-in theatres and multiplex indoor theatres, to THX and digital sound technology, Santikos Theatres leads the way in innovation. More recent additions include 3D presentation, Hollywood IMAX films, HD digital projection, in-theatre dining and the city’s only art-house. Santikos theatre patrons enjoy Red Carpet premiers and exclusive showings of concerts and special attractions.

John Santikos, an active arts supporter, believes in community service. His company partners with arts organizations, including the San Antonio Symphony, the San Antonio Opera and the San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet. Thanks to Santikos, patrons enjoy Opera broadcasts from the top European opera houses in the comfort of their local Santikos theatre.

Known for its work with many charitable organizations, Santikos Theatres offers canned food drives for the local food bank, helps with Red Cross donations and encourages patrons to support fundraisers for many not for profit organizations.

In addition to supporting the arts, Santikos Theatres contributes to the local economy, employing over 1,000 workers ranging from theater ushers to managers and corporate employees. Known for being responsive, the Santikos company is always among the first businesses to help when there is a need in the community.

Today, the Santikos Theatre circuit includes eight theatres: The Palladium IMAX, The Silverado San Antonio, The Mayan Palace, The Embassy, The Rialto Brewhaus, The Bijou Cinema Bistro, The Northwest 14, all in San Antonio, and The Silverado 19 IMAX in Northwest Houston. The Palladium 22 is coming soon to Fort Bend County in Houston.

Santikos remains the only locally-owned and operated theatre circuit in South Texas, and proudly continues its tradition of customer service, community relations and superior cinematic presentation.
